it looks like the OIL was PURPOSELY SPILLED ON THE ROAD as his rear wheel just slid
unlikely, as no one else after him suffered the same fate apart from all the security surrounding the course. cycling with highly inflated tires over wet cobble stones is like riding over a greased surface. it happened to me on a bike once.

good point, however there are many others who follow on bikes and cars which theoretically might have slipped or skidded likewise.
Nobody else is trailing Menchov on 7kg bikes with 20mm slicks
